Let me introduce myself

Hello! It’s lovely to meet you. My name is Deb and I am a Denver-based nonfiction copyeditor, copywriter, and proofreader. I have a Certificate in Copyediting from the University of California, and a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Fredonia in Political Science, with minors in Economics and English Literature.

I am a teacher at heart and taught English as a Second Language for many years in Denver’s immigrant and refugee communities. I’ve also run an art gallery, managed a garden and landscaping business, and taught yoga. Language, horticulture, travel, and fitness are my areas of expertise. Of course, I love to read, but what I enjoy doing most is helping people improve their skills and confidence in writing.

As a professional member of the EFA (Editorial Freelancer’s Association), and ACES (American Copy Editing Society) I’m committed to upholding and promoting their guidelines around professional standards and codes of conduct. These organizations nurture a culture of inclusivity, respect, and diversity, and offer specific guidance around aspects of accuracy, confidentiality, file security, etc. Visit their websites for loads of great information.

Not sure if copyediting or proofreading is right for you? Don’t worry. I offer a free sample edit to demonstrate how I would approach your project, with a detailed explanation of what I believe your next steps should be.
